More Africa provides a specialized daycare program for children with severe and multiple disabilities, many of whom function at a mental age of under one year. These children often require full-time care and supervision, and are unable to participate in a structured educational program. The daycare offers a safe, supportive environment where their basic needs are met with dignity and compassion.
The primary aim of the daycare is to offer relief to parents and/or caregivers, many of whom have limited resources and little access to specialized care. By providing a consistent, structured environment during the day, parents are given the opportunity to work, rest, or attend to other responsibilities, while knowing their child is cared for safely.
The focus within the daycare is on sensory stimulation and emotional wellbeing. Activities are designed to engage the senses and support the child’s development in ways that are appropriate to their abilities. This includes:
- Gentle music and sounds
- Light and color play
- Tactile experiences with different textures
- Movement and body positioning
- Eye contact, facial interaction, and emotional connection
Each child receives individual attention and care, with an emphasis on comfort, calmness, and connection. Our teachers are trained to recognize small cues of engagement, discomfort, or joy, and adapt activities accordingly.
The daycare also ensures proper physical positioning, feeding, hygiene, and rest, with routines tailored to each child’s specific medical and physical needs. Our teachers work closely with our physical therapist to ensure each child’s posture and mobility are supported, even in non-educational settings.
