Education at More Africa

At More Africa, education is tailored to the individual needs and abilities of our unique talents with special needs. The focus is on functional learning; teaching skills that students can use in their daily lives to promote independence, communication, and self-confidence. Education at More Africa is individualized, inclusive, and empowering, always aimed at helping each child reach their potential. Step by step, in a safe and loving environment.

The educational approach is based on adapted learning lines originally developed for special education in the Netherlands, and redesigned to fit the context of Zanzibar. These learning lines provide structure and progression, allowing each student to learn at their own pace.

Cognitive development

  • Basic literacy (letters, words, reading simple sentences)
  • Colours and shapes
  • Numeracy (numbers, counting, recognizing numbers, basic math)
  • Matching, sorting, memory exercises, and pattern recognition
  • (Beginnings of) writing
  • Science & Geography
  • English (Advanced class)

These subjects are taught through hands-on, interactive methods that help students understand and apply knowledge in real-life situations.

Communication & Language

  • Verbal communication (Swahili and/or English)
  • Sign language or alternative communication methods for non-verbal students
  • Basic conversation practice

Physical and creative activities are essential to stimulate both motor and cognitive development, while also supporting emotional wellbeing and self-expression.

Life Skills

  • Personal hygiene (brushing teeth, washing hands)
  • Daily living skills (hygiene, dressing, potty training)
  • Teamwork and turn-taking

These areas support the development of social-emotional intelligence, helping students navigate relationships, routines, and challenges in everyday life.

Motor Skills

Creative Arts
