Volunteering at More Africa

Volunteering at More Africa is more than just helping out—it’s about sharing experiences, building connections, and making an impact in the lives of children and young adults with disabilities.

We welcome volunteers from around the world who are open-minded, motivated, and ready to contribute to our mission in a respectful and culturally sensitive way. Whether you stay for a few weeks or several months, your presence can make a real difference.

What volunteers can do

Depending on your background, skills, and interests, you might support in areas such as:

  • Special Education: Assisting with lessons, supporting individual students, or helping with classroom organization.
  • Physical Therapy: Supporting therapy sessions (under supervision), helping with exercises or play-based motor activities.
  • Daycare: Offering care, stimulation, and attention to children with severe disabilities who function under the mental age of one year.
  • Vocational Training: Helping with tailoring, soap or candle making, gardening, or hospitality at our juice bar.
  • Arts, Sports & Music: Organizing creative or physical activities to engage students in fun and meaningful ways.
  • Daily Care & Routines: Assisting during meals, hygiene moments, or other parts of the daily program.

What we ask from you

  • A willingness to adapt to local culture and respect our way of working.
  • Patience, flexibility, and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • A background in education, healthcare, therapy, or social work.
  • A minimum stay of 4 weeks and 18+ years of age is preferred to create consistency for the children.

What you get

  • Accommodation in our dormitory OR at our on-site Blooming Zanzibar guesthouse.
  • The chance to work in a welcoming, inclusive environment with a close-knit team.
  • Daily learning, laughter, and inspiration—from both the staff and the students.
  • The opportunity to explore the beauty of Zanzibar while being part of something truly meaningful.

Volunteering at More Africa means giving your time and heart, and in return, gaining an experience that stays with you forever.
