More Africa

More Africa is an officially registered charity based in Zanzibar, dedicated to supporting children and young adults with physical and/or mental disabilities.

Our special centre provides access to services that are often unavailable through the standard education system, including: Special education, Physical therapy, Medical assistance, Vocational training & Daycare. We support children who are excluded from regular government schools due to their disabilities, working to create a more inclusive and empowering environment where every child can thrive.

Our work

Special education

Education at More Africa At More Africa, education is tailored to the individual needs and abilities of our unique talents with special needs. The focus is on functional learning; teaching skills that students can use in their daily lives to promote independence, communication, and self-confidence. Education at More Africa is individualized, inclusive, and empowering, always […]

Physical therapy

At More Africa, physical therapy plays a central role in the care and development of students, especially those with cerebral palsy (CP) and other physical disabilities. The goal isn’t just movement. It’s about helping children gain independence, confidence, and quality of life. At More Africa, physical therapy is integrated into the daily routine for […]

Daycare & Sensory stimulation

More Africa provides a specialized daycare program for children with severe and multiple disabilities, many of whom function at a mental age of under one year. These children often require full-time care and supervision, and are unable to participate in a structured educational program. The daycare offers a safe, supportive environment where their basic needs […]

Vocational training

As children grow into young adults, we guide them toward independence and purpose. Our vocational training programs teach practical skills such as soap making, candle making, gardening, tailoring, jewellry making, crafts, or hospitality. Our young adults can gain confidence, independence and contribute meaningfully to their communities.Together, these services help build a future where children and young […]

Medical care

More Africa provides medical care because many children and young adults with disabilities in Zanzibar have limited or no access to the healthcare they need.

FAQ: What is More Africa?

More Africa is a community-based NGO in Zanzibar (Jambiani) focused on inclusive education and child development. We create safe learning spaces where every child can grow at their own pace.

FAQ: Who are the children at More Africa?

We work with children who learn in different ways and may not fully fit into the traditional education system. We focus on abilities, not labels, and support each child individually.

FAQ: Do you work with children with disabilities?

Yes. Inclusion is at the heart of our work. We support children with a wide range of learning and developmental needs, always focusing on participation, dignity, and opportunity.

FAQ: Why is inclusive education important in Zanzibar?

Inclusive education ensures that every child has a place in society. When education adapts to children (instead of excluding them) communities become stronger, more resilient, and more equal.

FAQ: How is your education different from government schools?

We work with small groups, have multiple teachers in one class, let the kids feel safe, adapt lessons to each child, use creative and practical learning methods, and give children the time and support they need to grow.

FAQ: Do you follow a curriculum?

We create our own curriculum, adapted to each individual child. This allows us to focus on personal development, social skills, communication, and academic foundations.

FAQ: How do you measure impact?

Our impact shows in daily progress: confidence, attendance, communication, independence, and learning milestones. We believe impact grows through consistency, patience, and trust. Our teachers write daily reports.

FAQ: How do you work with parents?

Parents are our partners. We hold parent–teacher meetings, offer guidance, and work together to support each child’s development.

FAQ: Do you accept volunteers?

We carefully select volunteers based on skills, long-term value, and alignment with our values. We focus on capacity building, not short-term help.

FAQ: Why don’t you share sad stories?

We believe children deserve dignity and respect. Our focus is on empowerment, inclusion, and ability, not on sharing painful stories for attention.

FAQ: Can I visit More Africa?

Yes! We offer impact tours where visitors can learn about our work, our values, and inclusive education in practice. Always with respect for the children. Impact tours are Wednesdays and Fridays from 11.30 to 1PM. Please book up front and wear appropriate clothing.

FAQ: Why can I not interact with the kids?

For the children, More Africa is their school and safe space, not a tourist attraction. Unplanned interaction can be confusing, disruptive, or overwhelming — especially for children who need routine, structure, and emotional safety. Read more HERE
